Boxing Moneyline Betting. Two boxers will enter, one will (usually) leave victorious. If you bet on the winner’s moneyline, you’ll win your wager. A panel of three judges score every bout, so even if both boxers are left standing at the end, a decision will be rendered. Throughout the 17th to 19th centuries, boxing bouts were motivated by money, as the fighters competed for prize money, promoters controlled the gate, and spectators bet on the result. The modern Olympic movement revived interest in amateur sports, and amateur boxing became an Olympic sport in 1908.

Betting on boxing is becoming increasingly popular, especially when it comes round to the big fights.

Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor set bookmaking history back in August 2017, while other high profile fights such as Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko often to lead to huge spikes in bets placed in the sport

Here is our extensive boxing bettingguide to help you identify the best value bets available on one of the most popular sports.

General boxing rules

If you are in any doubt over some of the general betting rules with boxing, here’s the rules and regulations you need to know.

Bets will only be settled upon confirmation of the official result after the fight, but any enquiries made at a late date after the bout will not affect your settled bet.

In a case of a late substitute boxer coming in, the bet will be void and your stake returned to your account.

Online

If there’s a no contest or technical draw, all bets will be void unless the result has already been determined as a loser.

Boxing betting explained

Boxing betting is slightly different to what you usually come to expect when betting on sport as in comparison to the likes of football and rugby union, they are generally only six markets available to bet on in a boxing event, no matter who is fighting.

We run through the most popular and common betting markets that are available in boxing.

Outright Winner

In the Outright Winner market you are simply betting on three possible outcomes – Fighter A, Draw and Fighter B.

Generally, there is always a favourite in a boxing contest and if you are 100 per cent confident that fighter will come out on top, then you have to expect to place a large stake in order to win a bigger return.

However, if you bet on the underdog you will only have to place a smaller wager in order to make a profit.

Total Rounds

Most boxing contests take place over 12 rounds and with this bet you are betting on how many rounds you believe the bout will last.

Bookmakers usually set a mark of 8.5 and you can wager on whether you believe the fight will last more or less than that.

How To Bet On Fights

If you believe one boxer has a particular power advantage then you are more likely to bet on under 8.5 rounds, while if you think a boxer can win and is durable then you place a bet on over 8.5 rounds.

Winning Method

With this bet you are backing a boxer to win by one of FOUR means – Decision, KO (Knockout), TKO (Technical Knockout) or DQ (Disqualified).

Both boxers are generally offered for all of these means, and depending on your boxing knowledge, this could be a profitable method of betting.

Winning Group of Rounds

This method is usually grouped into trios of rounds – 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 or 10-12 and again can be placed on either boxer.

If a boxer has a reputation as a fast starter then it may be worth a bet over the first three-six rounds, while if it’s a fighter who can strike late on in the contest then it may be worth going for 7-9 or 10-12.

Round Betting

This bet is more specific than the Winning Group of Rounds bet, but the potential rewards and odds you receive are better.

You can place a bet from any round between one and 12 if you have the knowledge or a hunch that one boxer will come out on top in a certain round.

Boxing betting tips

When it comes to any form of betting the more you know about that certain subject the better chance you have of being successful.

That is no different in any sport, but it is also wise to have a strategy in place when making a bet rather than just going on a hunch or an inkling.

A strategy can be more straightforward in boxing rather than football, mainly because in boxing you are reliant on just an individual rather than a team of players as you do in football or rugby union.

Upcoming boxing fights 2019

There are plenty of big boxing fights coming up on the horizon, but the biggest of them all is the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and an unnamed opponent at the minute.

AJ was due to fight Jerrell Miller in June in the US, but Miller failed a recent drugs test, and they are now on the hunt for a late replacement for the bout.

Some of the other big fights over the next few months include:

  • Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs (WBA, WBC & IBF Middleweight Titles) – 4th May
  • Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale (WBC Heavyweight Title) – 18th May
  • Oleksandr Usyk vs Carlos Takam (Heavyweight) – 25th May
  • Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz (Heavyweight) – 15th June
  • Dillian Whyte vs Oscar Rivas (Heavyweight) – 20th June

Welcome to the boxing betting section of SportsBetListings.com. Boxing betting has reemerged as one of the most wagered on sports in recent years. I think a big reason for this is the heavyweight title contenders in Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder bringing eyes back to the heavyweight division, as well as superstars like Canelo Alvarez stepping in as the face of boxing, while Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao age out of the sport. Another big reason for the resurgence has to be the spectacle events such as Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor or the YouTube boxing matches such as KSI vs Logan Paul. These fights have brought a lot of new eyes to boxing and they are always widely wagered on events.

Below I will recommend our top three rated betting sites for your location, share recent articles from our resident boxing expert Ian, outline the main bets you can make on a boxing match and finish with a simple 3 step guide you can follow to bet on boxing online.

Boxing Betting Options

Boxing betting is very simple, you just wager on who you think will win the fight. This form of boxing betting is known as money line betting, and it is often the only bet you can make on the lower profile boxing matches. The higher profile fights such as Fury vs Wilder or any Canelo fight will also offer prop bets such as round betting, method of victory, fight to go the distance and more.

Boxing Money Line Betting

With a money line bet you simply bet on which fighter will win the match and your potential winnings are determined by the odds associated with each fighter. Bets on the favorite will obviously payout less than the same bets on the underdog. Here is an example using a potential bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua:

In this potential fight Tyson Fury is the favorite with odds of -190. This means you would have to wager $190 to win $100 (payout of $290) betting on Fury. Joshua would be the underdog with odds of +165, which means a $100 wager would win $165 (payout of $265) betting on Joshua.

Boxing betting is a straight forward as it gets. Place a wager on which boxer you think will win the match and if their arm is raised after the bout your bet is a winner.

Boxing Prop Betting

There are many other bets you can make on the higher profile boxing fights. Here is a list of some popular boxing prop bets with brief explanations of the bets:

  • Total Rounds – An over/under bet on the length of the fight. The oddsmaker will set a “total” and you can bet on whether the length of the fight is over or under that many rounds.
  • Method of Victory – A bet on the winner of the fight + how they win. For example you could bet on Canelo Alvarez to win by knockout or Canelo to win by decision.
  • Round Betting – A bet on the winner of the fight+ the round they win in. For example you could bet on Canelo to win in round 3.

There are plenty of prop bets offered on the high profile fights. If you have a good idea of how the fight could play out you can often get a much better return on your wager when betting props than just betting on the winner.
