Seattle lived up to their competitive label last week, as they temporarilyabused the undefeated Roughnecks. The Dragons still wound up losing and droppedto 1-4, but they once again showed they’re a little better than their recordindicates.

That said, I’m still a bit surprised their spread is so tight this week.

I don’t see them beating the Los Angeles Wildcats, but I suppose the gamecould still be close. I’d prefer the spread to be fatter than +2.5, but theprice and odds are the same just about everywhere.

Best Betting Line for Houston Roughnecks

Speaking of Houston, they’re 5-0, and it’s possible they keep winning for awhile.

I do think a road trip to battle the New York Guardians this week could bemildly problematic, though, so I’d be looking for the smallest point spreadpossible.

Right now, the best spread and odds you’ll find is -6.5 at -110. You can grabthat over at BetOnline, and since this spread is likely to only get thicker fromhere, now may be the time to pounce.

• DC Defenders -4.5/-110 at MyBookie

The Defenders enter week 6 as sizable home favorites. It’s a little shockingto see them favored like this considering Cardale Jones is a walking trainwreckandkeeps getting benched, but here we are.

I actually like the Defenders to win this game, as Dallas is also dealingwith a murky quarterback situation of their own. While that may end up being thecase, this point spread feels dicey.

This 4.5-point advantage is as good as it gets, however, so bettors will wantto hit up MyBookie in a hurry to make sure it doesn’t get any worse.

Best Betting Line for New York Guardians

New York shares the same fate as Houston, as this game has a similar pointspread and odds on both sides just about everywhere you look.

BetOnline remains one of the best XFL betting sites out there, though, andthey offer the best pricing you’ll get. New York is 3-2 on the year and haslooked good in two straight wins, so betting on them to hang tight in a homegame against Houston isn’t that wild.

• Dallas Renegades +4.5/-110 at MyBookie

The top XFL sportsbooks aren’t getting that creative with the pricing thisweek. DC has their best odds at MyBookie, and you can flip the other way andgrab Dallas at +4.5, as well.

If I’m betting on the spread on this game, I might prefer Dallas, justbecause they’ve largely hung tight in just about every game this year.

Not having star quarterback Landry Jones on hand due to a knee injury doescomplicate things, but if you like them in week 6, MyBookie may be the place toback them.

Best Betting Lines for Los Angeles Wildcats

Josh Johnson and company went nuts last week, as the Wildcats scored morepoints in a game than anyone else in the XFL this year.

Suffice it to say, LA is going to be a fun team to watch and perhaps even beton. This week, they’re on the road against the Dragons, but they’re the moretalented team, and this looks like a mismatch.

Seattle can be pesky at times, but this spread isn’t asking very much, andthe -110 price is solid at Bovada. LA felt like one of the easier teams to rollwith in myweek 6 XFL predictions, so feel free to roll with them at Bovada.

• Tampa Bay Vipers +3/EVEN at BetNow

Marc Trestman and the Vipers are so close to their second win of the year,I’m sure they can taste it.

Tampa Bay is just 1-4 and pretty far down in myweek 6 XFL power rankings, but they have played far better than theirrecord, and it may only be a matter of time before they slowly start to turnthis thing around.

The 2020 XFL playoffs may be out of reach, but a big week 6 win at home isstill in play. Tampa Bay offers the most value at BetNow, where they have EVENodds as 3-point underdogs.

Best Betting Line for St. Louis BattleHawks

St. Louis has been one of the more balanced teams in the XFL, but they didn’tlook like themselves in a rough road loss to the Defenders in week 5.

The BattleHawks will try to pick up the pieces and shoot for another road winin week 6 when they take on the Vipers in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay is one of my favorite upset plays of the week, but the BattleHawksare still a good team that can run the ball and play defense. If you believethey can slow this game down and dictate the tempo, Bovada looks like the bestspot to target them and their 3-point advantage (-115).

What is the XFL?

Although it shares its name and trademark with the defunct 2001 iteration of the XFL, the 2020 revitalization of the league is all its own. On January 25, 2018, the newly formed Alpha Entertainment, a media investment conglomerate founded by McMahon, announced a revival of the XFL.

The XFL will have eight teams in its inaugural season, all of which are owned by the league, and will play over the course of a 10-week season with a two-week postseason. The XFL will not allow cheerleaders, political protests, or convicted felons because, as McMahon put it: “people don't want social and political issues coming into play when they are trying to be entertained.” However, players will not be barred from using cannabis, nor will they be tested for it.

Aside from trying to make the XFL more compact on the outside, the league’s goal is to also make their game runtimes more concise, too. Originally shooting for a two-hour window, the XFL now plans to finish their game in less than two-and-a-half hours. For comparison, a standard NFL game runs a little over three hours.

The 2020 XFL draft format

Before the start of the draft in October, coaches submitted their lists of preferred quarterbacks. After the submissions, the league allocated each team one “tier 1” QB to each of the eight teams.

After the quarterback allocation, the official draft began. Done through a snake format similar to fantasy football drafts, each phase of the draft featured a different selection of specifics positions.

• Phase 1: 10 rounds for offensive skill positions (quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends)
• Phase 2: 10 rounds for offensive linemen (offensive tackles, guards, and centers)
• Phase 3: 10 rounds for the defensive front seven (defensive linemen and linebackers)
• Phase 4: 10 rounds for defensive backs (cornerbacks and safeties)
• Phase 5: 30 rounds for the open draft (any position, including special teams)

Important XFL dates

• Draft: October 15-16, 2019
• Season begins: February 8, 2020
• Championship game: April 26, 2020 - canceled

Bets defined

• Point spread- the set margin of victory needed for the favored team. (ex. Dallas -5.5; Dallas must win by 6 or more.)
• Money line- a bet solely on the winner and loser of the matchup in which odds determine the payout for the winning team. (ex. New York -300; a $300 bet on New York’s win would payout $100.)
• Over/under- the total number of points expected to be scored by one or both teams for a specific time frame. (ex. over/under 49.5 total points for Tampa Bay vs. Houston; betting on the over means a prediction of 50 or more points.)
• Prop bet- bets made on anything not directly affecting the outcome of the game. (ex. total number of times the DC quarterback is sacked.)
• Parlay- betting on multiple lines in an attempt to earn a larger payout. All bets must win for the bet to pay.
• Future- bets made as long-term predictions. (ex. Los Angeles +225 for the XFL Championship.)
